Find out some of the many Levadas and Walking Paths that you can choose.
Levada dos Maroços – Ribeira Seca – 3 hrs
Known as the “Mimosas”, it’s an easy path allowing you to enjoy some of the most beautiful view over the valley of Machico and south east coast.
Walking along the Levada you will be able to see local working farmers, cultivated lands, typical houses and fantastic views.
Risco – Rabaçal – 25 Fontes – 3,5 hrs
A beautiful walk through Risco and Rabaçal (a protected Nature Site), with remarkable and fantastic waterfalls and landscape
Pico do Arieiro – Pico Ruivo – Achada do Teixeira – 3,5 hrs
This is one of the most interesting mountain climbs. Starting on Pico do Arieiro (1810mts) going up to Pico Ruivo – the highest peak on the island. Beautiful landscape, breathtaking
views over the island, passing through small tunnels and finally Pico Ruivo (1861mts).
After a break the way down to Achada do Teixeira.
Caldeirão Verde – 4hrs
Starting in the Natural Park of Queimadas going through a winding Levada and passing several tunnels and finally arriving at Caldeirão Verde a majestic Waterfall.
Ribeiro Frio – Portela – 4 hrs
The levada will start in Ribeiro Frio, but not before making a visit to the famous trout hatchery on the Natural Park of Ribeiro Frio. On the Levada walk you can see some innumerable characteristic plants from Laurissilva forest and some bird species. Heading to Portela you will have the opportunity to see magnificent views over Porto da Cruz and Penha D’Águia.
Cabo Girão – Boa Morte – 3 hrs
Cabo Girão is the second highest sea cliff in the World giving you the possibility to have one of the most breathtaking views. Going along the Levada walk you can appreciate views over rural villages, cultivated lands and over Atlantic Ocean.
